Set Yourself A Goal

Graham Jeffrey, People Development Manager shares his top tips for goal setting:

  • What is your Goal?
  • What do you want to achieve?
  • How are you going to achieve it?
  • What do you need to do to achieve your Goal?
  • When are you going to reach your Goal?

All these questions relate to your Goals and Goal setting and there are some other key points to remember when thinking about your Goal(s):

  • Be clear about what you want to achieve, a Goal should be a ‘positive’ statement to help you progress
  • Challenging and Meaningful – how will your Goal challenge and drive you forward, what will it mean to you if you achieve it, what will be different, what will success look like?
  • Be realistic – set out each step, break it down, set out the priorities – short, medium, long term
  • Write down your Goal(s) and keep referring back to monitor progress
  • Structure – you can structure your Goal to help you focus e.g. make it SMART – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant & Time bound
  • Share and discuss your Goal(s) with others to get feedback, support and guidance

Remember Goals can motivate you, develop your confidence, skills, knowledge and performance and help with your career, personal and professional development.

By having a Goal or Goals you are more likely to achieve what you want and realise your potential.
