I got into football and a very early age and as this is my passion as a sport (not to mention I am a 5th degree black belt and former British, European and World Champion in the martial arts of Tang Soo Do) you can see I have a very competitive side to me.
Working in the Alliance, you build up many new contacts which you slowly discover that many others share the same interests as you. Therefore, back in 2003, I decided to throw an email out, to my partner company (Barhale) to see if anyone would like to start this on a weekly basis. To my amazement, I had a regular 10 people wanting to play every week which was fantastic.
When we moved into TWH at the beginning of AMP5, the Alliance had other personal from other companies that again had the same interests. Therefore, my regular 10 grew into approximately 25 and it’s still going very strong today.
It’s nice to work with many people that you can enjoy there company outside of work and I feel that your working relationship grows as well. The banter is unreal before and after the games we play which does make the work place a very nice place to work.
Football also keeps you fit and alert which I think is key to living a healthy lifestyle. Also, with many players half my age, it makes me push myself further just to keep on top of my game., especially when my son also plays who is half my weight and a 3rd of my age. (No way am I going to let him beat me!!!)
So for anyone wishing to start up, I would say go for it as it brings many people together who enjoy the sport, even my boss in the Infra department plays so you feel great friendship which is nice.
